What is Child Dedication?
At LakePoint, we recognize and celebrate the gift of life that God gives. Child dedication is a special moment where parents publicly commit to raising their child to know, love, and follow Jesus, while inviting their church family to partner with them through prayer, encouragement, and support.
The practice of child dedication has deep biblical roots. In the Old Testament, Hannah dedicated her long-awaited son, Samuel, to the Lord after God answered her prayers (1 Samuel 1:27–28). In the New Testament, Mary and Joseph presented the infant Jesus at the temple in dedication to God (Luke 2:22–24). Jesus also demonstrated His deep love for children when He welcomed them, saying, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these" (Mark 10:13–16).
It's important to understand that child dedication is not about a child's salvation or baptism. Rather, it is a declaration by parents that they desire to steward the life God has entrusted to them by intentionally pointing their child toward Christ. It is also a commitment by our church family to walk alongside them, encouraging and supporting them as they seek to make Jesus the center of their home.
We count it a privilege to celebrate this important milestone with families and to pray God's blessing over the next generation.
Parental Promise
Parents voluntarily present their children and themselves to God. Parents are committing themselves to faithfully fulfilling their parental responsibilities (1 Tim 5:8; Prov 22:6), training their child in a biblically shaped environment (Deut 6:6-7; Col 3:21; Eph 6:4), and being a Godly example by modelling and teaching their child how to walk in a personal relationship with Jesus (2 Tim 3:15-16). Parents are also acknowledging their need for prayerful support and encouragement from others in the church to do this (Heb 10:24-25).
